SMSG Parent Teacher Association

Welcome to the SMSG PTA!  As a parent, grandparent, guardian, or friend of the school, you are already a member! The PTA has no dues to pay or required volunteer hours. All we ask is that the SMSG Community does what it can to ensure a quality experience for our students. There are many ways to get involved!

PARENTS CONNECT GATHERINGS

Parents Connect gatherings will be held on the THIRD SUNDAY of the month in the school cafeteria at 7:00 PM from August through May. This is a chance for parents to discuss any questions/concerns they have with other parents – topics such as Homework, Peer Interactions, and more will be highlighted.  We will also discuss the upcoming PTA activities.  Any changes to this schedule will be sent out via e-mail and noted on the PTA Facebook page.  Please join us for an hour to connect with other school parents and learn more about what is happening at SMSG.

PTA EVENTS & ACTIVITIES

Here are just a few of the activities the SMSG PTA sponsor each year. Click on the links below to learn more about the different activities or to find out how to volunteer.

  • Recess Duty
Families are asked to sign up for at least one recess duty (monitor student play for safety) each semester.  Recess is from 12:00-1:00 PM.  We especially need parents on days when it is too cold or wet to go outside.  You must be Safe and Sacred Trained to volunteer.
  • $2 Themed Dress Down DaysPre-buy your dress down days for the year via Paypal below (the 5 Walk-A-Thon sponsored days WILL count towards your Walk-A-Thon totals).  Please be sure to list your student & grade.  There are no physical coupons this year.  We will keep a record of who pre-bought with the day’s collection sheets.
  • Parent-Provided Pitch-ins
  • Back to School Skate Party at Skateland
$7 admission includes skates and ice cream treat
  • Parent Mass
  • Walk-A-Thon
  • Red Ribbon Week
  • Dia de los Muetos Altar
An altar will be set up during this time for students to bring in photos or mementos of loved ones who have passed away.  If your student brings something in and would like it back please be sure to label it with the student’s name and class so that we can return it.
  • Box Tops for Education Collection
Collect Box Tops throughout the year and bring them in during these themed weeks.  Be sure your Box Tops are in an envelope labeled with who you thing the Scariest/Sweetest teacher is.  The teacher who receives the most votes (Box Tops) wins a class prize!
  • Book Fair
KISS (Kids Invite Someone Special, previously Grandparent’s Day)
  • Grandparents and/or a special family member are invited to visit their student’s classroom, enjoy a snack together, and visit the school Bookfair.
  • Christmas Feast
The PTA Sponsors this last lunch before the Christmas Break.  Teachers work in teams to create unique table themes for prizes.
  • Healthy Kids Week Color Run
Students in upper grades compete in the Spring Color Run.  Younger grades participate in Fit and Fun stations.  Parents are needed to help monitor the route, throw color, and distribute water.
  • Mother’s Day Breakfast
Mothers and Grandmothers are invited to share breakfast at the school with their students.
  • Field Day
Track and Field Events, Free Play, and more.  Parents are needed to help run activities.
  • Teacher Appreciation Programs & Gifts
The first week of May is Teacher Appreciation Week
  • Morning Care / After Care
  • School Improvements
  • Lunch Food Rescue
Students are encouraged to place any non-perishable lunch items that they are not going to open at the end of their table for collection.  Rather than throwing the food away it is then used in classrooms for students who have forgotten snacks or are donated to a local shelter for those in need.
  • Teacher & Classroom Enrichment
This includes but is not limited to supporting class trips and projects, providing classroom supplies, and purchasing recess equipment every year.

FUNDRAISERS
SMSG PTA does not require parents to pay dues and we do our best to limit the number of fundraisers at the school. The majority of the funds raised come from our annual school Walk-A-Thon.
